| Released on August 4, 2009, 'The Conceptual Representation of Extortion in the Mind of One of 16,865,766 Canadians', is a sequel to 'The Conceptual Representation of Extortion in the Mind of Someone Canadian'. The project is a personal comment upon Canada's federal and Ontario provincial governments' US$9.5 billion bailout package for General Motors Corp. (GM). The work juxtaposes 96 of the artist's personal cheques (each representing his individual, monthly share of the governments' eight year 'investment'), with the GM brand and a familiar metaphor for capitalist failure. Like the prequel, the prevailing outcome is a satirical reminder to taxpayers (stakeholders) of their corporate victimization. |
