ARTIST USES PERSONAL CHEQUES AS MEDIUM FOR GENERAL MOTORS (GM) BAILOUT STATEMENT

August 4, 2009: Conceptual artist Brian Rushton Phillips, has made public a sequel to the recent series 'The Conceptual Representation of Extortion in the Mind of Someone Canadian' — a comment upon Canada's federal and Ontario provincial governments' US$9.5 billion bailout package for General Motors Corp. (GM).

Entitled 'The Conceptual Representation of Extortion in the Mind of One of 16,865,766 Canadians', the project juxtaposes 96 of the artist's personal cheques (each representing his individual, monthly share of the governments' eight year 'investment'), with the GM brand and a familiar metaphor for capitalist failure.

Like the prequel, the prevailing outcome is a satirical reminder to taxpayers (stakeholders) of their corporate victimization.
