| CANADIAN CONCEPTUALIST INSERTS POP CULTURE INTO VATICAN April 2, 2010: Canadian conceptualist Brian Rushton Phillips has made public a continuation to his ‘Pop Reverence’ series, which explores the realm of media influenced perception and its relationship with western religion. Entitled ‘[Madonna] Catholic Child’, this new work modifies a Vatican stained glass of the biblical Madonna, substituting the Virgin Mary with the “Queen of Pop” and the Holy Son with the pop star’s adopted child David; suggesting that a media saturated public sphere, can shift the historical zeitgeist and alter our course of understanding. |
